Pen

The Pen tool lets you draw freehand; it creates hand-drawn-looking strokes that follow the path you drag with your mouse or stylus.

KeyAction
PChoose the Pen tool
  1. Choose the Pen (P) tool from the toolbar.
  2. Click and drag on the canvas; the stroke completes where you release.
  3. Draw freely with successive strokes; each stroke is a separate item and can later be moved and styled with the Select tool.

When you draw a stroke and select it, a selection bar appears above it. For pen strokes, these controls are available:

  • Stroke color: choose the stroke color.
  • Stroke width: thin, medium, or thick.
  • Opacity: adjust the opacity with the slider.
  • Layer order: bring to front or send to back.
  • Duplicate / Delete.

Note: Pen strokes have no fill, corner, or drawing style (Sketch/Scribble) controls; the stroke is already freehand.

  • Drawing is generated with pressure-sensitive smoothing; it gives a fast, natural hand-drawn feel.
  • You can undo a mistaken stroke with Ctrl+Z or remove it with the Eraser (J).
  • For temporary marking during a presentation, see the Laser Pen (L) tool; for permanent colored emphasis, see the Highlight (H) tool.
